BLM updates overnight fees at Lander-area campgrounds

BLM approves Easley Solar Project in Riverside County
The Bureau of Land Management today approved the Easley Solar project proposed on approximately 2,700 acres of BLM-managed public lands and 990 acres of private lands in Riverside County. The project is expected to generate up to 390 megawatts of photovoltaic solar energy and 650 megawatts of battery storage capacity, delivering reliable clean energy to the statewide transmission grid. The project will add nearly $305 million in infrastructure investment to the community and create 530 construction jobs followed by 10 operational positions once construction is complete.
Due to Hazardous Conditions, Gate on Bear Camp Road Closed December 9
The BLM Medford District is closing the gate on Bear Camp Road on Monday, December 9. The gate, which is closed annually for public safety due to winter weather, will remain closed until snow conditions allow for safe passage in the spring.
BLM announces geothermal lease sale results in New Mexico
The Bureau of Land Management today held a competitive geothermal lease sale, offering seven parcels totaling 4,468 acres in Doña Ana County. All seven parcels sold for $66,493.

Weather permitting, the Bureau of Land Management Ely District on Monday, Dec. 9, 2024 will begin burning slash piles of pinyon pine and juniper on public lands in south Steptoe Valley, approximately 25-30 miles south of Ely.

Prescribed Fire: Wildland firefighters to burn slash piles in Mesa County
Fire managers with the Upper Colorado River Interagency Fire Management Unit plan to burn slash piles in Mesa County now through April 2025. Firefighters will only burn the piles if conditions are ideal for a safe, effective burn, as well as for good smoke dispersal. Smoke may be visible in surrounding areas during burning operations and days following as the piles smolder.
BLM to host five wildland firefighter hiring events
The Bureau of Land Management is hosting five events to quickly fill more than 100 vital wildland firefighter and various supporting positions throughout the state for the 2025 fire year. Applicants are encouraged to attend one of the in-person events but may apply online in advance.
