BLM seeks input on proposed land sale to Eddy County
CARLSBAD, N.M. — The Bureau of Land Management is seeking public comment on a proposed noncompetitive direct land sale of nearly 200 acres of public lands east of Carlsbad to Eddy County. If approved, the lands will be used for construction of an industrial, commercial, and retail activity area that supports through traffic flow and expansion of businesses along the route. The planned development has the potential to create hundreds of service jobs in the area.
Until completion of the proposed sale, the lands are withdrawn from appropriation under the public land laws, including the mining laws, and the BLM will not accept land use applications affecting these lands.
A Notice of Realty Action will publish in Friday’s Federal Register to begin a 45-day public comment period and provide the public an opportunity to request a public meeting regarding the proposed sale. If, based on any requests for a public meeting, the BLM determines that meeting is appropriate, we will notify the public of the meeting’s date, time, and location in local newspapers and on the BLM New Mexico website at least 15 days before the scheduled meeting.
The comment period will close Jan. 12, 2025.
Written comments may be submitted through the “Participate Now” option at the BLM National NEPA Register (preferred) where more information about the proposed sale will be available Nov. 29. Comments may also be delivered to the BLM Carlsbad Field Office, 620 East Green Street, Carlsbad, N.M. 88220.
