Wildland Fire in Red Springs Wilderness Study Area Northwest of Jiggs

ELKO, Nev. – More than 100 wildland firefighters are on the scene of a wildland fire approximately 5 miles northwest of Jiggs, NV in Elko County. The Red Springs fire has burned approximately 4,060 acres and is 15% contained. No structures are threatened.
Initial Attack fire personnel worked late into the evening last night and additional resources arrived this morning to assist in the firefighting efforts.
Firefighter safety is a main concern with excess heat, erratic fire behavior and changing weather conditions.
The fire is burning in brush, grass, and closed timber litter. Sage grouse habitat is involved and threatened.
