Tabby Canyon Fire Prevention Order rescinded

West Valley City, Utah—The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) West Desert District has reopened BLM-managed public lands on Stansbury Island following 100% containment of the Tabby Canyon and North Stansbury Fires. Fire crews will patrol and monitor the area over the next couple of days and the public is advised to use caution when visiting the area due to the recent burn.
The prevention order restricted public entry, target shooting, camping, and unnecessary traffic in the land surrounding the fires, including: north of Interstate 80 on Stansbury Island, and land bounded by the Great Salt Lake to west, north and east; all in Tooele County, Utah.
All other BLM prevention orders remain in effect. These include a year-round prohibition on fireworks, exploding targets, tracer and incendiary (tracer) ammunition, sky lanterns or similar devices, and operating off-highway vehicles without spark arresters. From June 15 through September 30, the use of steel-core, steel-jacketed, or steel-tipped ammunition are prohibited. Prevention orders are posted to blm.gov, utahfireinfo.gov, and on signs where BLM-managed lands are accessed.
It has been a very hot and dry spring in the west desert, which has increased the potential for wildfire; the public is reminded to use caution and be prepared to prevent wildfires when visiting public lands. The BLM recommends keeping water, a shovel, and a fire extinguisher handy during the dry summer months.
