Federal, State Partners to Make Major Announcement Regarding the Greater Sage-Grouse

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. – On Tuesday, September 22, U.S. Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell will make a major announcement related to the historic conservation effort for the greater sage-grouse. The long-term decline of the greater sage-grouse and its sagebrush habitat has sparked an unprecedented collaborative, science-based conservation effort across 11 western states.
Secretary Jewell will join U.S Department of Agriculture Under Secretary for Natural Resources and Environment Robert Bonnie, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service Director Dan Ashe, Governors John Hickenlooper, Matt Mead, Steve Bullock and Brian Sandoval, and other state and local community leaders to announce the results of the effort.
Other federal officials in attendance include: Tom Tidwell, Chief, U.S. Forest Service; Jason Weller, Chief, U.S. Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service; Michael Bean, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Fish and Wildlife and Parks at the Interior Department; Janice Schneider, Assistant Secretary for Land and Minerals Management at the Interior Department; Neil Kornze, Director, Bureau of Land Management; and Suzette Kimball, Acting Director, U.S. Geological Survey.
