ELKO, Nev. – The California Trail Heritage Alliance a nonprofit partner with the  California Trail Interpretive Center, BLM Elko District office received a grant from the Union Pacific Foundation of 10,000 dollars for interpretive trunks which will be used in educational and interpretive programs at the center.

The educational trunks funded by the grant from the Union Pacific Foundation contain period correct materials that will aid in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math programs (STEM), cultural, literacy, and English as a Second Language programs.

“This is another great example of the partnerships the California Trail Interpretive Center is involved in.” Said Connie Jacobs, CTIC Manager. “Our local California Trail Heritage Alliance along with other partners allow the center to pursue grants that will aid the center in our educational and interpretive missions.”

The grant proposal was written by the California Trail Heritage Alliance in late summer of 2016 and awarded in 2017. The three new trunks should be available this summer for use.

“The three trunks will enhance the ability of local educators to tell the history of the California Trail across all disciplines,” said Helen Hankins, California Trail Heritage Alliance.
