CANON CITY, Colo. – The Bureau of Land Management Royal Gorge Field Office will be conducting pile burns at various locations this winter.

The Hole in the Rock pile burn project is more than 6,000 piles on 118 acres and is located 12 miles north of Canon City, nine miles SW of Cripple Creek in the Bare Hills area.

The Stoney Face pile burn is 20 piles on 20 acres and is located at Fremont County Road 2 and Firebox Road.

The Indian Wells burn is 50 piles on 10 acres and is located north of Deer Mountain Fire Station off of Indian Wells Road.

The Antelope Burn is 50 piles located on 260 acres and is located near Highway 9 south of 31 Mile Mountain.

Smoke from the prescribed burns will be visible throughout the day of the burn, mostly during the warmest part of the day.  With cooler temperatures in the evening, smoke may linger and accumulate in low lying areas.

According to the Colorado Air Quality Division, "prescribed fire smoke may affect your health".  For more information see https://www.colorado.gov/airquality/colo_advisory.aspx.
