The Bureau of Land Management High Desert District (HDD) is requesting public comment on the Vegetation Management using Herbicides on Public Lands Environmental Assessment (DOI-BLM-WY-D000-2024-0001-EA)

PINEDALE, Wyo.- The Bureau of Land Management High Desert District (HDD) is requesting public comment on the Vegetation Management using Herbicides on Public Lands Environmental Assessment (DOI-BLM-WY-D000-2024-0001-EA). This Environmental Assessment addresses seven herbicide active ingredients to control noxious weeds and invasive species on public lands. The HDD already employs an integrated pest management approach; these management techniques include biological, chemical, and physical.

This Environmental Assessment is a step-down version of the recently released Herbicide PEIS with specifics about the local landscapes and use of the newly identified active ingredients. If approved, the number of herbicides available for use in the district would increase from 21 to 28. The Record of Decision (ROD) for the 2023 PEIS approved the BLM’s use of the active ingredients aminocyclopyrachlor, clethodim, fluazifop-P-butyl, flumioxazin, imazamox, indaziflam, and oryzalin to treat vegetation on BLM-administered lands.

Please submit comments to Michael Murry at mmurry@blm.gov or to Maura Bradshaw at mbradshaw@blm.gov. Public Comment period will begin on August 7 through September 5 2024.
