CANON CITY, Colo. – Today, the Bureau of Land Management Royal Gorge Field Office approved a plan for ten new motorized and non-motorized trails totaling about 18 miles in the Fourmile Trail System outside Buena Vista.

The decision stems from a community-led proposal submitted to the BLM by Buena Vista residents.

“The public lands in the area have fantastic recreation opportunities for locals and visitors alike,” said Royal Gorge Field Manager Keith Berger. “BLM takes pride in being a good neighbor, and we appreciate the community’s hard work and collaboration.”

The Fourmile Trail System offers diverse motorized and non-motorized recreational experiences. The area is adjacent to the Arkansas River, which generates significant income for local economies through fishing, boating, and other activities.

Recreation on BLM-managed public lands in Colorado generated $591 million and supported 4,827 jobs in Fiscal Year 2016.
