BLM Battle Mountain Seeking Volunteers for National Public Lands Day at Mill Creek Campground

BATTLE MOUNTAIN, Nev. – On Sunday, September 30, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., the Bureau of Land Management, Battle Mountain District, will host a National Public Lands Day event at the Mill Creek Campground just south of Battle Mountain. National Public Lands Day is the nation’s largest, single-day volunteer effort for public lands and brings together hundreds of thousands of individuals and organizational volunteers focusing on the restoration and resilience of our public lands.
On June 28, 2017 a fire destroyed nearly all of the Mill Creek Campground and associated facilities. Since that time the BLM Battle Mountain District Office has been working to revitalize the area and are excited to announce that this year’s National Public Lands Day event will focus entirely on that effort.
“We are asking members of our local communities to join us in bringing this incredible area back to life”, said Mitzi Lankford, Associate District Manager. “Activities for the day will include planting trees, removing debris, spreading native seed mix, trash clean up and more. If you have the time, join us at Mill Creek on Sunday and bring the kids for a fun day of public land stewardship.”
The BLM will provide lunch and bottled water to all volunteers and the first 80 people will receive a free National Public Lands Day t-shirt.
Volunteers will meet at the Mill Creek Campground and asked to park near the camping area close to the entrance road. Volunteers are encouraged to sign up in advance as an individual or group by contacting Public Affairs Specialist Kyle Hendrix at 775-635-4054.
