CARSON CITY, Nevada – The Bureau of Land Management, Carson City District will be showing a free screening of a new documentary that covers the history of the iconic United Comstock Merger Mill, commonly known as the American Flat Mill. The free screening will be Thursday, May 31, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., at the Fourth Ward School, at 537 South C Street in Virginia City, NV.
The 1920s cyanide mill was the largest mill of its kind during its operation, and was part of the “last gasp” of large-scale, underground mining of the Comstock. After being abandoned in 1926, valuable machinery and materials were salvaged and the ruins of the mill site became a curiosity to locals. The unique architecture drew in artists, photographers, film-makers, paint-ballers, and youthful partiers. The documentary, The American Flat Mill: Icon of the Comstock, covers the history of the mill from its inception to its demolition.
