IDAHO FALLS, Idaho – Fire activity on public lands in the surrounding Idaho Falls area has been high this year.  One of the recent fires, the Deer Park Fire located south of Highway 33 and west of the Menan Butte area, affects many access roads used by local ranchers, hunters and recreationists.  Due to fire suppression activities, some of these roads may not be passable.  Though no areas are closed, the Bureau of Land Management would like to make the public aware of the potential for encountering road issues.

"The BLM plans to assess the area as soon as possible and specifically identify those access areas needing immediate attention and maintenance," said Jeremy Casterson, BLM Upper Snake Field Manager. "Public safety is a high priority to us. We want to ensure our recreating public is aware of any potential issues or concerns as they use their public lands. Fire crews are conducting suppression repair on the routes most impacted, however, some of these roads will remain difficult to travel until significant moisture hardens the surface. "

Please check with your local BLM office before visiting public lands which may have been affected by fire activity or if you have questions regarding road access.  The BLM appreciates the public’s cooperation in these efforts, and urges caution when recreating on public lands.
