Subject: Freedom of Information Act Search and Review Fees
Program Area: Freedom of Information Act (FOIA)
Purpose: This Instruction Memorandum (IM) distributes the Department of the Interior (DOI) FOIA Search and Review Fees directive dated September 10, 2010.
Policy/Action: The fees published by this IM will be used when processing FOIA requests for charges related to document searches and reviews.
Timeframe: Effective Immediately.
Background: Under the Department’s revised FOIA regulations (43 CFR Part 2, Subpart C and Appendix C (1)), FOIA search and review fees are increased annually with pay increases approved by Congress for employees. If a FOIA request was received before August 1, 2010, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) State and Center FOIA Officers will charge the requester according to the fee schedule that was in effect prior to August 1, 2010. The attached fees are available via http://www.doi.gov/foia.

Coordination: This IM was coordinated with the IRM Governance Division (WO-560), the State/Center FOIA Specialist, and the Department’s Office of the Chief Information Officer Council.
