Subject: Fiscal Year (FY) 2010 Youth Program Accomplishments Reporting DD: 12/1/2010
Purpose: This Instruction Memorandum (IM) transmits directions for reporting FY 2010 Youth Program accomplishments for the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), along with a form to use for submitting those reports.
Policy/Action: State Youth Leads are requested to distribute the attached form to Field Offices (FO) in order to compile a comprehensive report on Youth Program activities for the BLM. FO’s should report on projects that received Youth Incentive Funding in FY 2010 as well as any other youth education and engagement programs that took place during the year. This includes education and interpretive programs that are offered to children and families, as well as programs for teachers and youth group leaders. In addition, State Youth Leads are requested to provide written summaries of the top four projects or programs in the State that educated, engaged, or employed young people in FY 2010.
The State Youth Lead should collect all forms electronically in a folder. Once all forms have been collected, the folder labeled with the State name can be uploaded to the Youth Program Sharepoint site.
Timeframe: Effective upon issuance. The deadline for submitting forms to the Sharepoint site is December 1, 2010.
Budget Impact: None.
Background: The Secretary of the Interior’s Youth in the Great Outdoors Initiative provided BLM with funding to expand and enhance the bureau’s already successful programs that educate, engage, and employ young people. By producing a FY 2010 Youth Program Accomplishments Report, BLM will demonstrate its commitment to the Secretary’s goal of creating the next generation of conservation leaders.
Manual/Handbook Sections Affected: None
Coordination: This IM has been coordinated with the Division of Recreation and the Division of Cultural, Paleontological Resources and Tribal Consultation.
Contact: Questions may be directed by e-mail to National Youth Program Lead, Betsy Wooster (Elizabeth_wooster@blm.gov), or to National Take It Outside program coordinator, Patti Klein (Patti_klein@blm.gov).
