Subject: National Landscape Conservation System Request for Research Proposals

Program Area: The National Landscape Conservation System (NLCS)
Purpose: This Directive requests all NLCS units to prepare proposals for scientific research.
Policy/Action: The NLCS Research and Science Program provides financial support for science projects that seek to answer fundamental science questions within NLCS and for the larger National Public Lands System. This program strives to build natural, cultural, and social scientific knowledge of Public Land, increase the effectiveness of resource management strategies, foster cooperative conservation, and encourage public interest and ownership in the long-term conservation of America’s landscapes.
Attachment 1 identifies general granting guidelines, eligibility criteria, and format requirements.
Time frame: Proposals are due in the WO on June 10, 2010. Submit proposals to Marietta Eaton at Marietta_eaton@blm.gov. Proposals will be selected by June 18, 2010.
Background: On March 30, 2009, President Obama signed the Omnibus Public Lands Management Act (Public Law 111-11) into law. The Act supports the NLCS Science Program.
