Subject: Bureau of Land Management Nevada Adventure Book for Junior Explorers Program

BLM Nevada is excited to roll out the free Nevada Adventure Book for Junior Explorers, to help introduce young explorers to some of the great places BLM Nevada manages. The books are currently being shipped and will be available to the public at all BLM Nevada Offices and Visitor Centers during the week of November 3rd. It is also available electronically at http://on.doi.gov/1wL9ujo.

The activities are designed to be completed alone, or with family and friends joining the adventure. Once the Adventure Book is complete and the Junior Explorer has signed the pledge, they can bring their completed book to one of our offices to receive a BLM Nevada Junior Explorer pin to proudly wear as a symbol of their achievement. The Junior Explorer pins should be available at every office and visitor center that has the book.

There is no time limit for completing this Adventure Book. This initiative is related to the Nevada 150 geocaching activity as the geocachers visit the same six sites that are outlined in the Nevada Adventure Book for Junior Explorers but aside from that, these are two separate activities.

For additional information please contact your Nevada 150 District Office or Nevada State Office Representative: Elko - Jan Petersen; Winnemucca - Terah Malsam; Carson City - Terri Knutson or Lisa Ross; Ely - Chris Hanefeld or Emily Simpson; Southern Nevada - Kate Sorom; Battle Mountain - Kat Russell or Ben Cramer; Nevada State Office -Barb Keleher.

Key Notes:

  • Nevada Adventure Books are free.
  • Junior Explorer pins are free, but are only to be given to youth who bring in a completed Nevada Adventure Book and sign the Junior Explorer Pledge (on page 32 of the book).
  • The Nevada Adventure Book for Junior Explorers is separate from the Nevada 150 geocache activities, but they share the same six sites within the state.
  • As always, Public Affairs would love to have photos of Junior Explorers with their Adventure Book/pledge for use on the website. Just ensure that a proper photo release is signed by the parent or guardian.
  • There is no reporting requirement, but it might be helpful to keep a log of completed activity books and pins distributed.
  • If you are running short on books or pins please contact your District Office representative who will obtain additional copies from the Nevada State Office.
