Subject: National Public Lands Day 2015: Request for Project Proposals
DD: 02/13/2015
The purpose of this Information Bulletin is to request information on Bureau of Land Management (BLM) National Public Lands Day (NPLD) 2015 project proposals.
We are happy to report that for NPLD 2014, BLM coordinated 247 projects at 133 sites hosted by 88 field offices in 16 states, enlisting the help of thousands of NPLD volunteers and taking first place among participating Federal agencies. We sincerely appreciate the State and Field Office efforts that have made the BLM’s performance so outstanding over the years.
The date for NPLD 2015 is Saturday, September 26, 2015, and our goal is to have BLM offices once again host projects at 125 or more sites nationwide. As you plan your projects, please consider the Director’s determination that as an important, longstanding, and high-profile BLM program, NPLD should be fully supported by each State Office out of FY 2015 base funding; no Washington Office (WO) funding will be made available. However, National Public Lands Day volunteer recognition t-shirts will continue to be funded and provided to project/site coordinators by the WO Division of Education, Interpretation, and Partnerships.
As next year will also mark the 15th anniversary of the National Landscape Conservation System (NLCS), NPLD 2015 offers a perfect opportunity to showcase our National Conservation Lands; enhance individual monuments, national conservation areas, and other units through volunteer efforts; promote the scientific and recreational attributes of National Conservation Lands; and educate the public about conservation and management challenges on BLM lands. We encourage you to consult with your State’s NLCS Lead about opportunities to link NPLD projects and events with National Conservation Lands and upcoming 15th-anniversary activities.
We ask that you provide all required information for each proposed site on an NPLD 2015 Site Information Form (Attachment 1); please note that the form has changed slightly since last year. Please provide as much detail as possible in each section of the form, and feel free to add additional information or site photos at the end of the form, as desired. (Site information forms are also available in Word format; please see the contact information below.)
Forms should be emailed to State/Center Volunteer Coordinators (see Attachment 2) for State/Center Director approval and subsequent submission (if possible in one group) to Bibi Booth (Bibi_Booth@blm.gov), Deputy Chief, Division of Education, Interpretation and Partnerships (WO-420). Please email all forms by February 13, 2015; paper copies of forms are not required.
We look forward to a highly successful, productive National Public Lands Day 2015. Should you have any questions, or should you need assistance in form preparation, please feel free to contact Bibi at Bibi_Booth@blm.gov or (202) 912-7451.
