Subject:           Rangeland Stewardship Award                                              DD:  07/18/2014

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) recognizes the accomplishments of grazing permittees/lessees and other partners involved with public land management through presentation of the Rangeland Stewardship Awards.  These awards highlight outstanding examples of stewardship, including:

  • Maintenance or improvement of rangeland conditions;
  • The use of beneficial management practices; and
  • Efforts to collaborate and cooperate with other public lands users.

This is the 9th year these awards have been presented.  The Rangeland Stewardship Award program is an important component of the BLM’s overall goal to improve land health.  The 2014 Rangeland Stewardship Awards will be presented at the Public Lands Council’s (PLC) fall meeting in Ignacio, CO, the week of September 8, 2014.

Nominations:  Field office managers should submit their nominations to their state office by July 11, 2014.  After reviewing all nominations, each state office will forward one nomination in each of the categories below to Richard Mayberry and Kimberly Hackett, Rangeland Management Specialists, Division of Forest, Rangeland, Riparian and Plant Conservation by July 18, 2014.

The Rangeland Stewardship Award recognizes individuals or groups in two categories:

  • Grazing permittee or lessee; and
  • Collaborative team (in recognition of overall collaborative efforts).

Further details on the nomination process and standards for judging nominees are in the Nomination Process for Rangeland Stewardship Award (attached).

State offices must receive all nominations from field office managers by July 11, 2014.  Final nominations for each category must be received by July 18, 2014.

Any questions pertaining to this award program should be directed to Richard Mayberry (WO-220) at (202) 912-7229 or Kimberly Hackett (WO-220) at (202) 912-7216.
