The Statistical Research Inc. (SRI) Foundation, a non-profit organization, currently serves as the PIT Clearinghouse through a partnership agreement with the FS. The SRI Foundation recruits PIT volunteers to participate in heritage projects proposed and supervised by professionals in the Federal Government. The PIT program has collaborated with agencies to accomplish projects in a wide variety of areas, such as: archival research, archaeological survey, resource evaluation, site monitoring, historic restoration, documentation, curation, interpretation, and oral history. Since 1989, there have been 2,680 projects completed through PIT and collaborating organizations, including the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). The BLM pays a reduced administration overhead fee of $1,250 for each project, which is due at the time the proposal is submitted. It takes approximately 2 months from the time a project manager submits a proposal for the PIT Clearinghouse to complete recruitment and for the manager to select volunteers. To assist in determining if the PIT program would be helpful to your office or to help you plan future PIT projects, we are providing links to the following information: The PIT leader website resource (www.pitleader.org), wherein the PIT project proposal form required for proposal submissions and the PIT Project Manager’s Guidebook are located; and two recent BLM proposals (Attachments 1 and 2). Please note that online project proposal options do not yet include a BLM field unit identification data element. After you submit your proposal, please communicate this information separately to the PIT Clearinghouse at volunteer@passportintime.com. The clearinghouse will insert that information into the proposal during the editing and review process.
