San Juan Islands National Monument Advisory Committee
The San Juan Islands National Monument Advisory Committee (MAC) was chartered to provide information, advice and guidance regarding the execution of the National Monument's resource management plan, which was approved and signed in March 2023. Members represent a wide array of stakeholder interests in the land and resources from within the region.
Members of the MAC are appointed for three-year terms and serve without monetary compensation. Their travel costs are reimbursed, however, at current rates for government employees. Each member must, as a result of training and experience, have knowledge or special expertise which qualifies them to provide advice from among the categories of interest listed below.
The MAC is composed of 12 members: one members representing archeological, cultural, and heritage interests, one members representing wildlife and ecological interests, one member representing the interests of a nonprofit organization whose mission is conservation and/or management of natural resources, land, or water, One member representing natural resource management or natural sciences interests, one member representing recreation and tourism interests, one member representing local youth, education, and interpretation, two members who that have significant cultural or historic connections to, and knowledge about, the landscape, archeological sites, or cultural sites connected to the Monument, one member who holds State, county, or local elected office, one member representing conservation and/or management of natural resources, land, or water interests, one member representing local interests that is a resident of Lopez Island, and one member of the public-at-large.
