BLM Cody’s Cara Blank recognized with Unsung Hero Award
Cara Blank, realty specialist in the Bureau of Land Management Cody Field Office, was awarded the Department of Interior’s Unsung Hero Award this month for BLM Wyoming. This distinguished award recognizes employees of the Department who make valuable behind-the-scenes contributions.
Blank began her career in the BLM Cody Field Office 32 years ago as the secretary, moving on to a position as the land law examiner and finally, serving as the realty specialist for the past 13 years. As a BLM realty specialist, Blank ensures appropriate use of public land through rights-of-way, leases, easements and permits.
BLM Wyoming State Director Andrew Archuleta presented the award to Cara during the annual Department of the Interior Virtual Honor Awards Ceremony.
“As the sole realty specialist in the Cody Field Office, Ms. Blank provides invaluable mentorship and support to new employees while handling significant land tenure actions,” said Archuleta. “Her positive attitude and dedication to colleagues and the public exemplify the essence of an Unsung Hero.”
Blank was quite surprised to receive the Unsung Hero Award and credits those around her for contributing to the honor.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to work with such a dedicated group—they make my job easier,” said Blank. “I’d like to thank family, friends and co-workers who have inspired me over the last 37 years.”
Blank enjoys the variety she finds in her job and always strives to do her best.
“There’s something different every day,” she said. “You never know who will come in the door or call on the phone with a question.”
And for anyone looking for a little advice, Blank offered this final nugget of wisdom: “Make a difference. Be that dedicated person who makes an impact with a small action or few words.”
