Dauphin Island, Alabama

Dauphin Island sits off the coast of Southern Alabama, roughly 36 miles south of Mobile. It is a barrier island which means that it is both incredibly important to the coastal environment and also constantly eroding away. Dauphin Island is named for the "Dauphin of France" which was the title for the heir apparent to the French throne who at the time would have been Louis XV. Read more on ArcGIS Story Maps.
