Cy Young
This week, the General Land Office is showcasing a record that relates back to none other than Denton True "Cy" Young. Join us as we take a look at the legacy Cy Young left behind.
Cy Young was born on March 29, 1867, to McKinzie Young, Jr. and Nancy Mottmiller in the small farming town of Gilmore, Ohio. When Cy's parents were married, McKinzie Young Jr.'s father gifted him 54 acres of their farmland to start their family. Cy's grandfather purchased that land in Ohio directly from the United States government on December 1, 1830. Below is an image of the patent hosted on the GLO website. Read more on ArcGIS Story Maps.
The GLO website provides live access to Federal land conveyance records for the Public Land States, including image access to more than 12 million federal land title records issued between 1788 and the present.
The site also hosts images of survey plats and field notes, land status records, and control document index records, and is the most visited website in the Department of the Interior. Visit glorecords.blm.gov for more information.
