Wild horses gathered from burned Idaho rangelands available for public viewing
BOISE, Idaho –The wild horses gathered from burned Idaho rangelands in the Sands Basin and Four Mile Herd Management Areas (HMA) will be available for public viewing at the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Boise Wild Horse Off-Range Corral on Pleasant Valley Road on Nov. 2, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
There were 74 wild horses gathered from BLM-managed public rangelands burned by the Jump and Paddock fires in August 2024. They are currently being cared for at the Boise Wild Horse Off-Range Corral, and will soon be transported to the Bruneau Wild Horse Off-Range Corrals where they will stay until they can be returned to the HMAs. They will be returned once the rangeland has recovered.
The BLM Boise District is applying grass and forb seed and planting sagebrush this fall to begin the process of rehabilitating the most heavily burned areas. The areas will be monitored to determine when the rangelands have recovered enough to support the return of the wild horses.
