Event Description
CASPER, Wyo. – The National Historic Trails Interpretive Center is offering an intermediate wool rug braiding workshop from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 15. The workshop is free to the public, but registration is required.
While this workshop is meant to be a continuation of previous beginner classes held at the Trails Center, anyone with prior rug-braiding experience is welcome to sign up. Braiders with started, but unfinished rugs are especially encouraged to attend, where they can complete their project during the workshop. Participants may also receive donated wool supplies to practice their “butting” and “rat tailing” skills while supplies last.
“Rug braiding is an enjoyable and useful skill to pass onto others,” says Stacey Moore, Bureau of Land Management education technician and workshop lead. “It’s also exciting to host a second workshop so beginners can complete their projects. The process of finishing a rug is best learned in person rather than a book, as it can be quite complicated.”
Wool rug braiding uses scrap material to make useful household necessities, and pioneers used these same skills to braid rugs capable of lasting a century or more. Join us for this workshop to acquire the skills needed to properly finish a rug.
Registration is currently open to a limited number of participants. Please see the following link to register: https://forms.office.com/g/cnTdDjtBEp.
