TONOPAH, Nev. – The Tonopah Field Office is developing a Herd Management Area Plan (HMAP) and Gather Plan Environmental Assessment (EA) for the Bullfrog Herd Management Area. A 30-day public scoping period to review the Management Evaluation began on Sept. 17, 2024, and will end at 11:59 PM PST on Oct. 18, 2024.

A Management Evaluation has been prepared and is available for public review on the BLM ePlanning site at: https://eplanning.blm.gov/eplanning-ui/project/2034193/510. The Management Evaluation documents the current situation on range and will aid in alternative development of the Bullfrog Gather Plan EA.

“This Gather Plan is an important step to stabilizing the fragile ecosystem with an appropriate population level of wild burro,” said Perry Wickham, Tonopah Field Manager. “A careful review of this document will reveal why these beautiful animals rely on humans to take action to safeguard lives and property right here on the edge of an untamed and often barren land. The Bullfrog HMAP will identify and set objectives for wild horses and burros and their habitat in future years.”
