Event Description

DOLORES, Colo. - The BLM Tres Rios Field Office plans to conduct prescribed fire treatments this weekend on the West Dolores Rim to reduce hazardous fuels and improve ecosystem health. The BLM will implement the treatments as follows:

  • Saturday, Sept. 7: Hand ignition of about 331 acres of ponderosa and gambel oak in Unit 3, located approx. 7 miles east of Dove Creek, CO near Dolores Canyon Overlook.
  • Sunday Sept. 8 (possibly moving to Monday if conditions necessitate): Hand and helicopter aerial ignitions of about 634 acres of mixed mountain shrub and pinon-juniper in Unit 42A, located approx. 3 miles east of Egnar, CO.

Smoke permits obtained from the Colorado State Air Pollution Control Division identify atmospheric conditions under which the burns can be implemented. Smoke may be visible and can affect your health. For more information, visit https://www.colorado.gov/pacific/cdphe/wood-smoke-and-health.
