Media Advisory: Reno students join BLM “Mock Fire” training April 2024

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) invites members of the media to a “Mock Fire” training on April 29, 2024. “Mock Fires” simulate real-world wildland fires and are crucial to bolstering wildland firefighter skills. Students from the Fire Science Career and Technical Education Program at the Academy of Arts Career & Technology High School (AACT) will join to observe and interact with BLM and U.S Forest Service firefighters. This firsthand exposure will allow students to witness the application of firefighting skills in a realistic setting, gain insights into the complexities of managing wildfires, and prepare for careers in wildland firefighting.

Where: (RSVP for directions) Hidden Valley, between W Hidden Valley Dr. & Desert Way, Reno
Visuals:
- Firefighters demonstrating a variety of wildland firefighting techniques including deploying hose packs off engines.
- Fire equipment including fire engines and hand tools.

Notes: The Fire Science Career and Technical Education Program at AACT prepares students for careers in wildland firefighting with classroom curriculum, hands-on training, and real-world fire scenarios. The program is led by BLM instructors and was developed in partnership with AACT.
