Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monument reopens after seasonal closure
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Bureau of Land Management and Cochiti Pueblo today announced the Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monument will reopen on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2025. The Monument was temporarily closed for a seasonal closure from Dec. 15, 2024, through Jan. 31, 2025. Information regarding fees, closures, and other visitation details are available at www.blm.gov/visit/kktr.
The Monument is a popular geologic hiking destination for visitors worldwide. Average annual visitation peaked at just over 130,000 visitors in the five years prior to the temporary closure. Over-visitation impacted not only the natural resources within the Monument but also the gateway community of Cochiti Pueblo. BLM recently initiated a reservation system to foster a more enjoyable visitor experience and protect Monument resources.
Starting Jan. 30, 2025, visitors can make reservations at recreation.gov for future visits beginning Feb. 1, 2025. A limited number of passes are available each day. Visitors must also obtain a Cochiti Pueblo Tribal Access Pass after making a reservation at recreation.gov.
