Event Description

LAS CRUCES, N.M. — The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Las Cruces District invites Pinos Altos residents to come out and be informed of the ongoing and future herbicidal treatment actions as part of a vegetative treatment program to reduce the amount and continuity of burnable vegetation surrounding the Pinos Altos area.

Vegetative management practices to reduce fire hazards include burning, thinning, pruning, chipping, spraying and mechanically removing vegetation. They are most effective when multiple strategies are combined to disrupt the potential for a wildfire to spread and intensify.

Last year, the Rico Fire started one and a half miles northwest of Pinos Altos. It serves as a prime example as to why to reduce vegetation and create more defensible space. The community meeting will take place at 5 p.m. on June 12 at the Pinos Altos Volunteer Fire Rescue station, located at 4759 Highway 15, Pinos Altos, NM 88053.

Come learn about vegetation management and its critical role in reducing wildfire risk, improving wildfire resiliency, and promoting Pinos Altos as a fire-adapted community.
