Prineville, Ore. — The Bureau of Land Management Prineville District has amended a temporary closure of BLM public lands due to changes in fire activity associated with the Lone Rock and Battle Mountain Complex Fires. The change removes the closure from one area and expands the closure in another area for additional public and firefighter safety.

The amended closure now includes all BLM-administered public lands along and near the North Fork John Day River corridor from Monument, OR to Dale, OR, located in the following townships:

  • T. 06 S., Rgs. 28, 29, 30, 31 E.
  • T. 07 S., Rgs. 27, 28, 29, 30 E.
  • T. 08 S., Rgs. 28, 29, 30 E.

The closure has been rescinded for all BLM-administered lands along the main stem John Day River corridor from Service Creek to Kimberly, and for all BLM-administered lands along the North Fork John Day River corridor from Kimberly to Monument. For additional information and the closure map, visit https://www.blm.gov/orwafire.

Members of the public may not enter closed areas, and all uses—including hiking, mining, hunting and dispersed camping—are prohibited. As it becomes safe to do so, firefighters will reevaluate the closures and their impacts. Before heading out to visit public lands this summer, please check for current fire restrictions and closures while planning your trip to public lands. Take extra care while recreating for your safety and the safety of our first responders.
