Desert Dace National Public Lands Day Event 2024
Event Description
Bureau of Land Management Black Rock Field Office is partnering with the U.S. Geological Survey, Friends of Black Rock-High Rock, and Friends of Nevada Wilderness to host 2024 Desert Dace Day as part of NPLD, which is a nationally recognized day to celebrate public lands.
Join us on Saturday, September 28 for the 2024 Desert Dace Day at the Soldier Meadows Area of Critical Environmental Concern (ACEC). This year's event will include restoring sensitive habitat for the Desert Dace (a threatened fish species only found in the Soldier Meadows Area), re-establishing walking paths around the public campground, removing fences, and improving the public cabin.
Soldier Meadows ACEC is approximately 60 miles north of Gerlach, Nevada. Participants are encouraged to camp out for the weekend, bring proper clothing for the weather and service projects. Volunteers are advised to bring plenty of water and sun protection.
As a thank you for the hard work and dedication, volunteers will receive BLM-NPLD coupons redeemable for free admission to any National Park or federal site with an entrance fee.
