Bureau of Land Management moves auction of 25.6 million tons and 740,000 loose cubic yards of sand and gravel to June 28
LAS VEGAS – The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) will now auction 25,685,000 tons and 740,000 loose cubic yards of sand and gravel from three community pits in the Las Vegas Valley on Friday, June 28 at the BLM Las Vegas Field Office, 4701 North Torrey Pines. Bidding will begin at 10 a.m. The original sale date was June 14 and was rescheduled to allow for an appropriate amount of time for operators and potential bidders to make plans to participate in the competitive sale.
“The original advertisement identified the total quantity of mineral martials located at each contract area and not the projected quantity of mineral materials the BLM anticipates will be produced in a 10-year renewable contract period,” said Bruce Sillitoe, Las Vegas Field Office Manager. “By updating the quantities of mineral materials to be produced in a 10-year renewable contract, the BLM needed to adjust the amount of the required five percent deposit needed to participate in the competitive sale. These revised quantities and deposit values reflect a more reasonable and accurate production and deposit obligation for the competitive sale.”
Mineral materials (sand and gravel) are used in everyday construction, agriculture and decorative applications. Highways, bridges, power plants, dams, high-rise buildings, railroad beds and airport runways, along with their foundations and sidewalks, all use mineral materials of one type or another.
