Bureau of Land Management to Conduct Slash Pile Burns in Beaverhead and Madison Counties
Dillon, Mont. — The Bureau of Land Management’s Dillon Field Office will be conducting controlled burns of slash piles starting Nov. 21, 2024 through March 2025 in Beaverhead and Madison Counties, specifically near Grant, Wisdom, and Virginia City, Montana.
The designated areas for burning include:
- Schwartz Creek area near Grant
- Granite Creek drainage areas near Virginia City
- Twin Lakes area near Wisdom
These slash piles will be burned when the ground is snow-covered or when surrounding fuels are sufficiently wet to minimize the potential for unwanted fire spread. The BLM will only proceed with burning when weather conditions and forecasts indicate adequate smoke dispersion.
The timing of these prescribed burns is contingent upon favorable weather and fuel conditions. The burns will be managed by fire managers from the BLM to ensure safety and effectiveness.
The BLM manages more than 245 million acres of public land located primarily in 12 western states, including Alaska, on behalf of the American people.
