Bureau of Land Management announces new Southern Nevada District Office Manager

LAS VEGAS – The Bureau of Land Management has selected Kim Liebhauser as the new Southern Nevada District Manager. She was most recently Senior Advisor for Employee Engagement and Development in BLM Nevada.  

“Kim brings a wealth of leadership experience and a deep commitment to building high-performing teams. Her ability to foster trust, cultivate resilience, and drive collaboration will be invaluable as she leads the Southern Nevada District,” said Jon Raby, BLM Nevada State Director.

With over 37 years of federal service, Kim's career began as a high school student with the Bureau of Reclamation in Amarillo, Texas, and spans roles in realty, IT, GIS, and more with the Bureau of Reclamation, National Park Service, and BLM. She has held a variety of leadership positions, including overseeing BLM district and field operations in Wyoming, Arizona and Nevada, as well as leading statewide initiatives in Wyoming as the Associate State Director and Acting State Director. After leaving federal service in 2022, Kim shifted her focus to leadership coaching.

Beyond the bright lights of the Strip, the Southern Nevada District Office manages 3.1 million acres of Mojave Desert in Clark and Nye counties. With its sunny skies and plentiful wind, the district boasts a robust renewable energy program with nearly 1.7 gigawatts of renewable energy projects already online. National Conservation Lands in the Southern Nevada District include the Avi Kwa Ame National Monument, Gold Butte National Monument, Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, Sloan Canyon National Conservation Area, Gold Butte National Monument, 15 Wilderness Areas and portions of the Old Spanish Trail. The district’s lands and realty program is a part of the everyday lives of residents with hundreds of Recreation & Public Purpose leases for schools, churches, fire stations, post offices and thousands of rights-of-way that bring utilities to homes and businesses. The district manages the Southern Nevada Public Land Management Act (SNPLMA) program which directs the BLM to coordinate with local municipalities to sell public lands in the Las Vegas Valley and continues to dedicate proceeds to a variety of projects that enhance quality of life for residents and visitors. In Nevada, SNPLMA also authorizes the Secretary of the Interior, in consultation with the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development to sell public lands at below fair market value to State or local government entities. Southern Nevada District also offers a myriad of recreation opportunities including OHV, hiking, target shooting, camping, three back country byways, rock climbing, viewing of cultural resources and wild horses and burros as well as managing hundreds of special recreation permits each year. 


The BLM manages more than 245 million acres of public land located primarily in 12 western states, including Alaska, on behalf of the American people. The BLM also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation.
