BLM seeks input on proposed land exchange near St. George
ST. GEORGE, Utah– The Bureau of Land Management is seeking public input on a proposed land exchange between the BLM and the Washington County Water Conservancy District. If approved, the BLM would convey up to 929.14 acres in Warner Valley to the district. In exchange, the district would convey approximately 89 surface acres of comparable value in the Red Cliffs Desert Reserve and Red Cliffs National Conservation Area that contain critical habitat for the threatened Mojave desert tortoise.
"The BLM is dedicated to comprehensively evaluating how this land exchange will affect all aspects of the environment and basing our management decisions on the best available science,” said St. George Field Manager Jason West. "We highly value public participation in helping us to complete our analysis."
More information on this environmental assessment is available at the BLM National NEPA Register where written comments may be submitted through the “Participate Now” option (preferred). Comments may also be delivered to Attn: Red Cliffs/Warner Valley Land Exchange, Bureau of Land Management, 345 East Riverside Drive, St. George, UT 84790. The comment period will close Dec. 16, 2024.
