BLM seeks input on the draft assessment for Muddy Mountains travel management
LAS VEGAS – The Bureau of Land Management Las Vegas Field Office is seeking comment on the draft environmental assessment for the Muddy Mountains Travel Management Plan. The project area is comprised of the 133,483-acre Muddy Mountains Special Recreation Management Area, located 25 miles southwest of Logandale and 50 miles northeast of Las Vegas. The public will be able to provide comments on these documents until August 16, 2024.
“Our goal is to improve the visitor experience within the Muddy Mountains Special Recreation Management Area with this effort,” said BLM Las Vegas Field Office Manager Bruce Sillitoe. “We look forward to receiving the public’s feedback on the draft environmental assessment and draft travel management plan.”
Muddy Mountains was designated as a special recreation management area in the 1998 Las Vegas Resource Management Plan. The proposed travel management plan includes only BLM-managed land and identifies and designates routes as open to the public, for administrative use only, or to be closed and rehabilitated.
In December 2022, the BLM Las Vegas Field Office conducted a preliminary route inventory of the existing transportation system, consisting of both desktop analysis of existing route data and on-site ground truthing to generate one data set. The public will have an opportunity to review the data and information during the planned meetings and online at our ePlanning site.
