BLM seeks initial input for proposed Carey to Pabco transmission line rebuild
Event Description
LAS VEGAS — The Bureau of Land Management is seeking public comment on the proposed replacement of the Carey to Pabco Transmission Line crossing nearly seven miles near Las Vegas in Clark County. If approved, NV Energy could construct, operate, maintain and eventually remove a single circuit 69 kilovolt line, including a 12.5 kilovolt double circuit on about 0.25 miles. The existing transmission line would be removed once the new line is in service. The comment period will close May 8, 2025.
The proposed project is located on about 101.3 acres of public lands east of the Las Vegas Valley, along East Lake Mead Boulevard and Pabco Road. The work would follow the alignment of the existing line which crosses east-west through the northern area of the Rainbow Gardens Area of Critical Environmental Concern.
“Public input is valuable to aid in evaluating the proposed project,” said BLM Las Vegas Field Manager Bruce Sillitoe. “The most useful comments provide information, data or identify relevant information that has not yet been considered or that provide a different way of meeting the project need.”
A virtual public meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, April 22, from 6 to 8 p.m.; please register to attend at the BLM National NEPA Register. The presentation will start at 6 p.m. and be followed by a question-and-answer portion and an opportunity to provide comments. The meeting will be recorded and posted on the BLM Nevada YouTube channel.
More information about the proposed project can be found on the BLM National NEPA Register, where comments may be submitted through the ‘Participate Now’ option (preferred); comments may also be emailed to BLM_NV_SNDO_NEPA_Comments@blm.gov or delivered to BLM Las Vegas Field Office, Attn: Nardia Salmon, Realty Specialist, 4701 N. Torrey Pines Drive, Las Vegas, Nevada 89130. The comment period will close May 8, 2025.
