BLM plans prescribed burn in Douglas County
CARSON CITY, Nev. –The Bureau of Land Management, Carson City District is planning a prescribed burn of piles of woody debris on 209 acres of BLM administered lands along upper Sunrise Pass Road, in the Pinenut Mountains east of Gardnerville Nevada.
“The pile burn will reduce the fuels available to a potential future wildfire, creating a strategic roadside fuelbreak along Sunrise Pass Road,” said Jonathan Palma, Fire Management Officer.
The pile burning will happen between the fall and winter, from mid-November and the end of February, when weather and fuels conditions allow for safe pile ignitions. Residents may notice smoke visible in the area, but smoke should dissipate quickly due to the relatively small amount of material to be burned.
