BLM Northwest and Southwest Resource Advisory Councils to hold joint meeting in May

DELTA, Colo. – The Bureau of Land Management’s Northwest and Southwest Resource Advisory Councils (RACs) will conduct a field tour on May 1 commencing at 10 a.m. at the Bill Heddles Recreation Center, 531 N Palmer St, Delta, CO 81416. Attendees will visit the Dominguez-Escalante Canyon National Conservation Area (NCA). The tour is expected to finish by 3:00 p.m.
Members of the public are welcome on field tours but must provide their own transportation (high-clearance vehicle recommended) and meals. Individuals who plan to attend must RSVP no later than April 17 with the listed contact.
The NW and SW RACs will host an in-person meeting on May 2 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Bill Heddles Recreation Center. The meeting is open to the public and virtually via Zoom (registration required) https://blm.zoomgov.com/meeting/register/vJIsf-Gorj8uGS2ns2SaoQcPh6GKVTX7fYU
“The Northwest Resource Advisory Council and its members are valuable partners with the BLM who provide recommendations that help guide our management of public lands,” said Acting District Manager James Michels. “We look forward to meeting with the Southwest RAC in Delta and appreciate their advice, ideas, and diverse opinions on overlapping issues in our areas of responsibility.”
Planned agenda items include an overview of field office updates, a discussion on the Dominguez-Escalante Canyon NCA business plan and the Escalante Ranch Land Acquisition. A public comment period is scheduled at 2:30 p.m. Individuals who want to make a statement during the public comment period are encouraged to also submit a written copy of their statement at the meeting for the administrative record. The NW and SW RACs will separate for field manager updates after the public comment period.
The three 15-member Resource Advisory Councils in Colorado are forums for providing advice and recommendations to the BLM on various resource and land management issues.
The Northwest RAC advises the BLM Colorado Northwest and Upper Colorado River Districts including the Little Snake, Kremmling, White River, Grand Junction and Colorado River Valley field offices and the Dominguez-Escalante and McInnis Canyons National Conservation Areas.
The Southwest RAC advises the Southwest District including the Gunnison, Tres Rios and Uncompahgre field offices.
