LAS VEGAS – The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) will auction 25,685,000 tons and 740,000 loose cubic yards of sand and gravel from three community pits in the Las Vegas Valley on Friday, June 14 at the BLM Las Vegas Field Office, 4701 North Torrey Pines. Bidding will begin at 10 a.m.

"This auction will provide sand and gravel that is used in everyday construction, agriculture, and decorative applications,” said Bruce Sillitoe, Las Vegas Field Office Manager. “Highways, bridges, power plants, dams, high-rise buildings, railroad beds and airport runways, along with their foundations and sidewalks, all use mineral materials of one type or another.”

In northern portion of the Las Vegas Valley, two sales contracts are offered at the Speedway Community Pit, with access via North Las Vegas Blvd. through existing access gates and dirt roads within the Speedway Community Pit.

Bidders must be authorized to transact business in Nevada. Bids will be by the ton except for N-099604 which will be loose cubic yards. The minimum acceptable bid per ton or loose cubic yards for each contract is listed below:

  • N-99352 and N-99606: $1.37 per ton
  • N-99604: $2.81 per loose cubic yard
  • N-99869: $1.68 per ton

To be eligible to take part in the bidding, potential bidders must submit a separate five percent deposit for each contract they wish to bid on. Those interested in bidding should contact 702-515-5000 for additional requirements.

The Las Vegas Field Office manages one of the largest BLM mineral materials programs in the nation featuring five active community pits and dozens of individual use areas that produce several million tons of sand and gravel per year. Last fiscal year, the Las Vegas Field Office sold close to $4.5 million dollars of sand and gravel.
