BLM to increase campground fees to enhance visitor experience along the Madison River
DILLON, Mont. — In response to growing demand and increasing operational costs, the Bureau of Land Management is increasing campground fees for recreation sites along the Madison River, managed by the Dillon Field Office. These changes will directly benefit visitors by supporting year-round site maintenance, enhancing facilities, and providing high-quality recreational opportunities for all.
"These fee adjustments are essential for ensuring that the Madison River remains a vibrant and accessible destination for everyone," said Amanda James, Dillon Field Office Manager. "The fees will allow us to meet the rising demands of visitors, maintain critical infrastructure, and improve the overall outdoor experience, ensuring these sites remain safe and enjoyable for generations to come."
The BLM recognizes the increasing value that visitors place on public lands and the necessity for open access. Over the past five years, recreational use along the Madison River has significantly increased. With more visitors comes the need for enhanced services and consistent upkeep, including added staff presence, improved facilities, and maintenance that extends beyond peak seasons. These fees will help the BLM meet these growing demands while maintaining open and equitable access to public lands.
The following fee changes will be implemented to ensure that necessary improvements can be made at the following Madison River recreation sites:
Recreation Site Fee Changes
Recreation Site | Current Fee | New Fee (First 5 Years) | Future Fee |
---|---|---|---|
Palisades Campground | $12/night | $20/night | $30/night |
Ruby Creek Campground | $12/night | $20/night | $30/night |
Red Mountain Campground | $12/night | $20/night | $30/night |
Trapper Springs Campground | $8/night
| $15/night
| $25/night |
Bear Trap North Campground | $8/night | $15/night | $25/night |
Bear Trap South Campground | $8/night | $15/night | $25/night |
One hundred percent of the fees collected will be reinvested directly into the maintenance and enhancement of the sites where they are collected. This ensures that every dollar is used to improve visitor facilities, preserve the natural beauty of the area, and provide better access to outdoor activities.
