BLM firewood permits available at multiple locations
CARSON CITY, Nev. – With the colder weather approaching, individuals begin to think about gathering firewood. Firewood cutting permits are required to gather firewood from Bureau of Land Management managed public lands. Permits for firewood cutting in the Carson City District, are available online at https://forestproducts.blm.gov/ and in person at the locations identified below. For firewood cutting permits outside of the Carson City District, please contact the respective BLM Office.
Firewood cutting permits are for personal use only, and materials gathered may not be resold. Personal use firewood permits are for the collection of standing dead or downed juniper and/or pinyon pine, which may be collected District wide. In addition, personal use firewood permits are available for the collection of standing dead or downed Jeffrey pine within Alpine County, California on BLM administered lands which were impacted by the 2021 Tamarack Fire. No cutting of green trees of any species is allowed. Personal use permits are $10.00 per cord and up to 10 cords may be purchased per person, annually. Permits are valid for 90 days from the date of purchase.
While out cutting firewood, remember to be in possession of your permit, load tags, and map. Follow all permit stipulations and recommend procedures to prevent wild fires. During dry weather, wood cutters should have a fire extinguisher, shovel and bucket of water handy. In addition, all chainsaws must be equipped with spark arrestors.
Please stay on existing roads and consult your maps to make sure you are on BLM managed lands. Report any permit violations with as much information as possible (e.g. date, license plate number, detailed location, and directions to area) to the Carson City District Office.
BLM permits for firewood will be sold at the locations listed below. All locations will accept cash and in addition, the BLM Carson City District Office can process credit card orders.
