Event Description

RICHARDTON, N.D. — The 2025 Schnell Wild Horse & Burro Adoption Event will take place Sept. 6-7, 2025, at Schnell Recreation Area near Richardton, North Dakota. 

This event will feature 41 available animals, including yearlings, burros, and 3-4-year-old geldings. Attendees will have the chance to learn from experienced trainers, including Mustang Matt, who will lead a “First Touch” training clinic.  

Event Schedule: 

  • Sept. 6 – Mustang Matt’s “First Touch” Clinic: 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. 

  • Sept. 6 – First Come/First Serve Adoption Event: 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.  

  • Sept. 7 – First Come/First Serve Adoption Event: 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.  

“Wild horses and burros are living symbols of the American West, and they are looking for a new home,” said Patrick Merrill, BLM Montana/Dakotas Wild Horse & Burro Coordinator. “By adopting one, you become part of a legacy of freedom and resilience, while gaining a loyal and hardworking companion for your farm, ranch, or outdoor adventures.”
