SHOSHONE, Idaho – The Bureau of Land Management today announced acquisition of the 281-acre Queens Crown parcel bordering the Blaine County Transfer Station in southcentral Idaho. BLM acquired the parcel from the Wood River Land Trust with money from the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF).

BLM’s Shoshone Field Office will manage these new public lands to connect wildlife migration corridors, improve habitat conservation, and expand public access to the area. Mule deer and antelope traveling between the Wood River Valley and the Snake River Plain frequently migrate through this parcel.

“BLM is grateful for the partnership we have with the Wood River Land Trust,” said BLM Acting Shoshone Field Manager Lisa Cresswell. “Throughout the years, by working together, we have expanded America’s public lands in Idaho for all to enjoy.”

This parcel is also considered priority sage grouse habitat, meaning it has the highest value for sustaining sage grouse populations. Priority habitat typically contains contiguous sagebrush cover and active sage grouse breeding grounds.
