West Fork Campground
This Campground is on the Taylor Highway (milepost 49), near the town of Toke. In mid-September, the Campground is usually full, with most visitors using RVs and 5th-wheel campers. There is a 10-day stay limit.
An iron ranger fee-payment box sits near the entrance. Visitors can also pay fees using the Scan & Pay app on a mobile phone. Because there is no cell phone reception at the site, you will need to download the required Recreation.gov mobile app prior to traveling to the Campground, selecting the Scan & Pay option.
The campground has 2 loops, one with 7 pull-through spaces and another with 18 back-in spaces. During the summer, potable water is hauled to the site and made available to campers at a centralized location. At the overlook on the large loop, look for trumpeter swans and moose on the small oxbow lake.
River Access: 1/4 mile north of the campground, there is parking and river access. The river access point for the West Fork of the Dennison is the southernmost access point on the 400-mile Fortymile National Wild and Scenic River System.
Boats must be carried about 20 yards to the water. Except during periods of high water, such as spring runoff, this section of river is typically too shallow for pleasant canoeing or rafting.
Accessibility Description (ABA/ADA)
The iron ranger fee-payment box and Scan & Pay station sit on packed gravel near the entrance to the site.
There are 4 accessible single vault toilets at the site—1 in the smaller east camping loop, and 3 in the larger west loop. A tank with potable water and an easy-to-operate lever valve is hauled to a central location in the Campground at the start of each season.
There are 7 pull-through campsites in the smaller loop and 18 back-in or pull-in campsites in the larger loop. The surface at the Campground is compacted gravel.
All the campsites have picnic tables and fire rings with grill attachments. Three of the sites have tables with an extended end to accommodate wheelchair users, and there is 1 fully accessible site in the smaller loop with an elevated tent pad, accessible picnic table, and fire ring with grill attachment safe for use from a sitting height.
A campsite in the larger loop has a shade structure looking out over a pond to the west. The smaller loop has 1 covered picnic table.
There is a camp host on-site, typically until mid-to-late August.
Descriptions and photos uploaded February 2025. Please note that actual on-the-ground conditions may vary due to natural events (e.g., weather, wildfires, erosion), normal wear and tear, or site improvements.
