Walker Fork Campground

This hosted Campground is located at milepost 82.1 of the Taylor Highway, near Chicken. The Campground is operated by the BLM and offers 24 camping sites, 18 of which are pull-through sites.

An iron ranger fee-payment box sits near the entrance. Visitors can also pay fees using the Scan & Pay app on a mobile phone. Because there is no cell phone reception at the site, you will need to download the required Recreation.gov mobile app prior to traveling to the Campground, selecting the Scan & Pay option.

In the 1930s and 1940s, this was the site of Lassen airstrip. Year-round air service replaced winter-only sleds delivering equipment and fuel to mining camps on Jack Wade Creek.

Accessibility Description (ABA/ADA)

The iron ranger fee-payment box and Scan & Pay station sit on packed gravel near the entrance to the site.

There are 2 accessible toilets, a single vault toilet in the middle portion of the Campground and a double vault toilet near the rear. A tank with potable water and an easy-to-operate lever valve is hauled to a central location in the Campground at the start of each season.

Of the 24 campsites, 18 have pull-through parking. One of the pull-through sites, located in the rear section of the Campground, has an elevated tent pad, a picnic table with an extended end to accommodate wheelchair users, and a fire ring with a grill attachment for safe use from a sitting height. Two other campsites have accessible picnic tables with extended ends to accommodate wheelchair users, and 1 of these also has an accessible fire ring and grill. There is a shared bear box for food storage, which can be accessed from a sitting height, in the back part of the Campground.

The Campground has 1 covered picnic area with an accessible picnic table and grill. It is designated for day use but can be used for camping during overflow periods.
