William's Bottom Campground

Overview

William’s Bottom Campground is located along State Route 279 (AKA Potash Road). The area is named after John “Doc” Williams, Moab’s first community medical doctor. Around the turn of the 19th century, Doc Williams established his residence across the Colorado River from the Kane Creek confluence. Today campers enjoy this area and the numerous surrounding recreational activities and scenic vistas from a 17-site campground.    

Located 9.6 miles northwest of Moab, William’s Bottom is surrounded by the red rock walls of the Colorado River Canyon. Be prepared for temperatures below freezing October to March and temperatures above 100 degrees F June to August. Cottonwood trees and other vegetation provide some shade and shelter. The campground is closed during the low use winter season (exact dates vary each year). The sites can accommodate smaller RVs (24 feet in length max).  

Recreation 

There are numerous recreational attractions along State Route 279/Potash Road. The Wall Street climbing area provides climbing routes ranging in difficulty on the vertical walls of Navajo Sandstone. Petroglyphs carved into the sandstone and ancient dinosaur tracks can be viewed from pullouts along the road. The popular Poison Spider Mesa Trailhead provides access for four-wheel driving, mountain biking, and hiking and the Corona Arch hiking trail leads to the popular natural arch.    

Businesses out of the town of Moab offer various guided outings, rentals, and evening entertainment. 

Facilities 

Each campsite has a parking pad for two vehicles (vehicle pulling a trailer = two vehicles), picnic table, fire ring, and close proximity to a vault toilet and trash receptacles.  

There is no drinking water or electricity hook ups.  

During Spring and Fall a campground host is stationed at this campground. Campground hosts assist visitors with acquiring a campsite, trip planning, and campground etiquette. 

Fees 

$20 dollars night on a first-come, first served only. Cash and check payments onsite.   

Interagency Pass Discounts 

A 50% discount applies for: Senior Annual, Senior Lifetime, Access, Golden Age, and Golden Access Passes. The holder of the pass must occupy the site for which the discount is applied. The pass can only be used for one site during a time period.
