The Mattole Campground provides one of the only low-cost coastal camping opportunities on the North coast of California. It is a hub for day hikers and backpackers alike while still maintaining the epic Lost Coast solitude many visitors are looking for. As Northern trailhead to the famous Lost Coast Trail many people visit to experience the spectacular ocean views and rugged beaches. The mouth of the Mattole River meets the ocean providing a spectacular backdrop and is home to a variety of fish and wildlife.

STAY OUT OF THE OCEAN
Rip currents, sneaker waves, sudden drop-offs, and forceful waves make this beach unsafe for swimming. Elephant Seals are unpredictable and can become aggressive. Always maintain 100 feet of distance and keep your dog on a leash.
