Overview

Lud Drexler Park is located on the north end of Salmon Falls Creek Reservoir near the Idaho/Nevada border, about 36 miles south of Twin Falls, Idaho. The reservoir was created in 1910 to provide irrigation water to nearly 25,000 acres of farmland. The site was developed in 1974 in response to increased use of the reservoir. The recreation site is a cooperative effort by local sportsmen, Twin Falls County, Salmon River Canal Company and the BLM. In 1981, it was renamed in honor of Lud Drexler, a local sportsman who contributed significantly to developing the site.

Know Before You Go

Lud Drexler Park offers 20 developed campsites with shade cabanas, fire rings, and picnic tables, irrigated landscaping and vault toilets. The Park also offers reservoir shore access, a boat ramp, maintained road access, and dispersed camping sites. Potable water and an RV dump are available on site. The reservoir is popular for boating, fishing and camping. Anglers find trout, smallmouth bass, yellow perch, and walleye throughout the year. During the fall season, the campground is a popular place to stay for hunters due to abundant game found near the reservoir.

Accessibility Description (ABA/ADA)

Entrance / Toilets. There is a partially shaded kiosk with site and safety information and a fee tube sitting on packed gravel near the entrance to the site. For day-use fees only, visitors can use the Scan & Pay app to pay with a mobile phone. Because cell phone reception is poor at the site, you will need to download the required Recreation.gov mobile app beforehand, selecting the Scan & Pay option.

Just beyond the information kiosk is the first of 4 accessible double vault toilets at the site.

Boat Launch / Day-use area. Parking for the day-use area is alongside the boat ramp, and there is also overflow parking near the toilets at the top of the ramp. The parking lot and area as a whole are surfaced in gravel, which may be loose in spots and tricky to maneuver for visitors using mobility devices.

There is an accessible double vault toilet at the top of the 2,500-foot boat ramp, which leads to 3 floating docks. One of the floating docks has a ramp and protective railing around it.

Campground. A loop road of packed gravel connects the 20 campsites in the campground, each of which has a gravel parking spur. Paved paths connect the 4 accessible double vault toilets to the campsites.

Fourteen of the campsites have pavilions covering concrete pads and picnic tables with inset legs that allow wheelchair users to pull up to the ends. Just outside the pavilions, fire rings with grill attachments that are safe to use from a sitting position are on packed gravel. The other 6 campsites are on grass and dirt, with fire rings and grills. Not all the picnic tables at these sites can easily accommodate wheelchair users.

Water, RV Dumping Station. Potable water is available from 8 water hydrants of varying heights with easy-to-use lever valves. The hydrants are scattered throughout the site, including 1 near the toilets at the top of the boat ramp. The campground has an RV dumping station in a large, flat area with concrete and packed-gravel surfaces and no steps.

Cell phone reception is spotty at this site. Watch for cracks in the concrete, which can occur from the freeze-thaw cycles.
